about 1985 first Ragdoll in Germany
In this year the first
breeder,
Ingeborg Kloeters
with the cattery name
“The New World Cat”,
brought the race
Ragdoll to Germany. She only sold her kitten
to breeding programs
and this only in
pairs. At this
time only the original Ragdoll existed (source: RFCI and
VdOR-Dayton-genetic chart, breeder from those years…).
Also
Ingeborg Kloeters
informed all other
breeders to send copies of the pedigrees to Danny Dayton to
submit them, to make sure that the genetic chart could be
continued without any gap, that the Ragdoll could still be bred
purebred and that the Ragdoll is the only race with a database
in which the datas of the cats were collected in one place and
submitted there. Those Ragdolls belonged gapless to the founder
stem because Dayton only submitted those kittens whose parents (ancestors)
were already listed in the chart.
Thanks to the use
of Dayton the Ragdoll is the only almost 50 years old race with
a worldwide gapless list of ancestors
(source: VdOR-Dayton
genetic chart).
about 1985
patent of
tabby – refused
10 years after Ann Baker patented her
race she tried to add other pattern (tabby) to her patent. This
was refused by the office for patents (source:
Defintiv Guide to Ragdol).
1986
IG-Ragdoll was founded
The community of interest for
the Ragdoll was founded in Germany (IG-Ragdoll) by Karin
Hughes-Dentler. Until about 1998 only the purebred Ragdolls were
considered and supported (equal if people were breeders or only
lovers of pets). She has given a commitment that the Ragdoll
(the original
Ragdoll of today)
in its 3 versions
was accepted by FIFé. Tina Röllin bred in the IG, only the
original was wanted. Nowadays the IG-Ragdoll supports all
versions and colors of the Ragdoll
(source:
The Ragdoll, IG-Ragdoll).
1991
Solitär-database/cat
blub Bavarian e.V. CFA
At this time the family Kellner
founded the database “Solitär” and the cat blub Bavarian e.V,
CFA. In the Solitär only the genuine/original Ragdoll was
registered and this up to today. Only those Ragdoll breeders who
only breed the original could get a member of the Bavarian
(source: HP Solitär/Bavarian).
Kevin “von Duches”, geb. 20.11.1991, his father: „Ragnarok Royal-Richard”, his mother: “Ragnarok Sweet Sue”.
The breeder of Kevin was a member of IG-Ragdoll.
1981
Ragdoll in
Europe
In this year the first Ragdolls
came over to Europe and to Great Britain. These were Ragdolls from the
cattery Danny Dayton:
“Blossom Time”.
They went to the breeding program of Lulu Rowley with the cattery name
“Petil-Lu”.
The english breeder also were of course informed that they have to send
copies of the pedigrees
to Danny Dayton
(source: Defintiv Guide to
Ragdoll/RFCI and VdOR-genetic chart).
1984
testmatings for
lilac (Great Britain)
The english women Pat
Brownsel (“Patriarca” ) and Lulu Rowley (“Petil-Lu”)
made a testmating between the boy of Danny Dayton,
“Blossom Time Bananas”
(in the color
of lilac) and a lilac tortie Burma cat girl. They wanted to
confirm that Bananas showed the color lilac. All 6
kitten from this mating were in the color of lilac (lilac x
lilac only brings out lilac), 1 mitted, 1 bicolor, 4 tortie
bicolor. With this it was proven that Bananas was a boy in
the color of lilac! The breeder held back one of the tortie
cats (Henriette). She mated her with a Ragdoll boy
“Ragfairless Fred”.
The result from this mating was a kitten in chocolate
bicolor. With this is was proven that also
"Ragfairless Fred”
carried the chocolate gene. With this testmating the English
breeder had the opportunity afterwards to breed targetedly
on these 4 colors.
In the upcoming breeding years it was found that the boys
“Blossom Time
Lad”,
“Blossom Time Romeo”
and the girls
“Blossom Time
Sumer”,
Blossom Time Spring”
also
“Blossom Time Camellia”
carried the
gene of chocolate. It is especially emphazised that the
english people were very proud of their race. They never
would have brought other races to the Ragdolls in those
times.
Those
mixed race from these testmatings thus were never used for
the breeding of the Ragdoll!
(source:
Pat Brownsel, about 2006/8).
All this shows us
that those breeders knew about the genetics, that they knew
how to find out by testmatings which Ragdoll carried the
gene of chocolate and which not. Despite of these successes
in showing the gene of chocolate (b) people in the german
speaking area always claimed that the Ragdoll does not carry
the gene of chocolate though some of the F1-generation
showed b and many were carrier of b
(source: Defintiv Guide to Ragdoll/VdOR-Dayton-genetic chart).
1994
beginning of the RFCI database
Danny Dayton stopped to write the genetic chart
for the Ragdoll. He handled over all the datas of the Ragdolls – including
the submitted “Purple Heather” and “Blue Mountain”- Ragdolls - to his club,
RFCI. Charley Myers transferred the datas from the Dayton-papers to a
software on the PC. In addition to the ragdolls, that were bred purebred,
also all other Ragdolls were submitted from which the ancestors were not
known – including all other races that were brought into the Radgoll (as far
as known) f.e. Himalayan, Birman, Persians, Balineses, experimental
Shorthair, Exotic-Shorthair…(source: RFCI-genetic chart).
1994
separation Ragdoll / RagaMuffin
Until this time breeders tried again and again (especially
in the USA) to bring other races into the Ragdoll in order to get other
colors and pattern. Breeders of the group “purebred Ragdolls” and those of
the group “Ragdolls of new crossbred races” quarreled with each other. To
simplify we call the the other group (Ragdolls of new crossbred races) new
Ragdoll (nR). Half of the nR-breeder decided to give a new name to their
Ragdolls: they are known today as “RagaMuffin”. They are recognized in the
following counries of Europe: Hungary – FAMKAT / Austria = OERCC / Germany =
WFU, read:
www.ragamuffins.eu.
To the chagrin of the original line (the Original-Ragdoll of nowadays) all
the other nR were written down in the pedigrees under the name “Ragdoll”
(source: RFCI-genetic chart).
1995
“The definitive guide to
Ragdolls”
In this year the book
“The Definitve Guide to
Ragdolls” by Lorna
Walace, Robin Dickering and David Rollard was published. For their
resuearches they visited the founder of the Ragdoll, Ann Baker, and the
first and longtime breeder Danny und Laura Dayton, David and Georgann
Chambers. Though the breeders of the Ragdoll knew about the most important
things (by breeders and clubs) also a lot of new things could be read.
1995
the
Ragdoll with the new colors in the breeding program
It was unfortunately time: the first nR (Ragdolls
of new colors because of crossbred) came to the breeding programs also in
Europe. But they were still not yet recognized
(source: RAG).
1995
foundation of
RAG
On 25 of June the RAG - “Ragdoll
Arbeitsgemeinschaft” - e.V.” was founded. This club looks
after all Ragdolls, equal in which color or patter (including mink, sepia, solid)
(source: RAG).
